Business Relations

The Alliance has been formed with the explicit objective of working in partnership with industrial collaborators to accelerate the invention and implementation of novel, sustainable biomass based processes and products. The challenge of balancing continued and equitable economic growth, whilst halting the rise in greenhouse gas emissions will in part be solved by the use of biomass to replace petroleum based products, but the time we have available to discover and implement such new technology is very limited.

With this in mind we are seeking integrated long term relationships with industrial partners who share our vision for embedding sustainability in technological discovery and development. In particular we believe that it is essential that in such a partnership the industrial and academic research is integrated.

Rafat Malik (BEng MSc MRAeS) joined in April 2007 as the Business Development Manager for the Porter Alliance. Rafat is an aeronautical engineer by training and has chartered status with the engineering council, with 12 years in the aerospace/defence sector and commercial engineering IT sector. Rafat is Business Development Manager for the Porter Alliance.

Alison Parker joined the Energy and Environment Office in March 2005 as Assistant to Dr Ali. Alison is the events organiser for the Porter Alliance.
